The Friday Ethnic
The Atelier

The garment,
as it is truly made.

Four chapters, in the order they happen. Nothing hurried, nothing outsourced, nothing left to a machine that a hand can do better.

Fabric Selection

01

Fabric Selection

Bolts are sourced from mill houses in Varanasi, Kanchipuram and Bangalore that our founder has known for two decades. Nothing enters the atelier without being touched by hand, held to the light, and pressed between the fingertips.

The Embroidery

02

The Embroidery

Zardozi, aari, resham — the karigars who do this work were taught by their fathers, who were taught by theirs. A wedding sherwani can hold four hundred hours of thread. We do not shorten the hours.

Hand Finishing

03

Hand Finishing

Buttons hand-attached with silk thread. Hems rolled by finger. Linings basted from the inside so no machine mark ever meets the skin. It is the finish, not the front, that tells you a garment is ours.

Tailoring & Fit

04

Tailoring & Fit

Every garment is cut for one man. Four fittings, minimum. The shoulder must sit as if it had grown there. The cuff must clear the wrist by the width of a rupee. Nothing else is acceptable.

"There is no shortcut. There has never been one. There will never be one."
